The Latest issue of Famitsu magazine has confirmed that Level 5’s highly anticipated RPG White Knight Chronicles will be released in Japan on December 11, 2008 priced at JPY 6980.

A western release has yet to be announced, though the game is expected to make an appearance at the Tokyo Games Show next month.

Little is known about the game at present, other than the fact it will incorporate all the necessities you’d expect from a stellar RPG outing, including sumptuous visuals, real-time combat system and a lengthy play time rumoured to exceed the 50 hour mark.

White Knight Chronicles supports 1080p

According to the goldmine of information and speculation that is Neogaf, Level 5's hotly-anticipated title 'White Knight Chronicles' is set to be the first PlayStation 3 RPG to output at native 1080p resolution.

The information comes from a preview in Japanese magazine Dengenki, which also revealed that the storyline quality will be 'on a par' with the likes of DragonQuest, the visuals are set to rival Final Fantasy, and that the gameplay owes a huge debt to Monster Hunter and similar franchises. A giant box of RPG crack, then.

Set for release on December 25 in Japan, we're still awaiting confirmation of a European or US date. Here's hoping it's just around the corner.

oddio, spero che il debito a MH non si riferisca al sistema di controllo in battaglia :S ma visto che parla di gameplay allora si può ben sperare

According to this IGN piece, Level-5’s White Knight Chronicles is to feature online co-op. From the story:

White Knight will feature a cooperative online quest mode. Separate from the single player story mode, the online mode, known in the Japanese version as “Live Part,” will allow four players to team up to work through quests.

While the game’s story mode does not offer co-op play, there is a connection between the story mode and online modes. The character that you use in the online mode will travel in your party during the story mode. Additionally, quests from the online mode can be played single player as well.

White Knight will feature all the expected components of an online title, including a lobby, featuring up to 16 players, an auto matching system, and chat facilities of some form. A robust character creation system was detailed months ago.

The game’s out in Japan on Christmas Day, and will be playable at TGS this week.

Online Gameplay Demonstration

New White Knight Chronicles Info Trickles Out

Excited for White Knight Chronicles drip fed PR? We're not, but maybe someone is. Here goes: The Black Knight can transform into a powerful flying thingy. Regarding attacks, players have one-handed swords like daggers, which are ideal for short, close fighting.

There are also large, two-handed swords that can damage enemies in a swift blow, but it's difficult to repeat the sword strikes in a rapid succession. For magic, there are two types ("Holy Magic" and "Spirit Magic"). Magic drains some of the character's health, and there are four types attributes for Spirit Magic: Fire, Water, Wind and Earth.

The last bit of info concerns winning battles with monsters. Players get things that they can use. For example, Famitsu says in the story part that players get a "Giant's Skull," but it's not known how that can be used. Maybe in the online part? Save that for the next installment of things developer Level 5 could tell us, but won't because the developer wants to draw out this game's promotion as long as possible so maybe you (yes, you!) buy the game. Stay tuned.

beh, fin qui tutto nella norma
